The PAK-FA Su-57 will replace the past MIG-29 Fulcrum and Su-30 MKI Flanker aircraft. It will compete with the F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Lightning II US. The development of the PAK-FA Su-57 aircraft began in March 2007. Manufacturing work was accomplished at Komsomol’ sk-on-Amur by the Novosibirsk Chkalov Aviation Production Association (NAPO Chkalov).

The final assembly of the body in front of the aircraft was executed at Komsomol’ sk-on-Amur in 2009. The first flight test was delayed due to technical problems. The first prototype of the aircraft was created in February 2009. In January 2010, the aircraft successfully completed the initial path.

Sukhoi Su-57 PAK-FA Weapons

Armament integrated in the Sukhoi Su-57 PAK-FA aircraft uses two 30mm Gsh-30-1 internal cannon and R-77 missile fiber. This aircraft has four hard points (four sides in each wing) where the missile is installed.

Gsh-301 is a 30 mm single barrel sent by Izhmash JSC, Russia. The cannon can fire 1,500 to 1,800 rounds per minute and weigh around 64kg.

The R-77 missile is a medium-to-air range missile supplied by Vympel, Russia. The weight of the missile is around 175kg. Two large anti-ship bombs weighing 1,500 kg each and two missiles established by the Novator Bureau were installed on the aircraft.

Sukhoi Su-57 PAK-FA Engine and Speed

The aircraft is powered by two turbofan Saturn-Lyulka 117S engines (upgraded AL-31). Each machine can produce a maximum thrust of 150kN after the burner. 117S is an improved model of the AL-31F engine.

The Saturn-Lyulka 117 is equipped with modern high and low pressure turbines, a new digital control system, vector push nozzles and a fan with a diameter of 932mm. The age and average time between the engine overhaul (MTBO) is 4,000 hours and 1,000 hours.

The Su-57 can go up at speeds of 350m/ s. The maximum speed and cruising of each aircraft are 2.600 km/ h and 1,800 km/ hr. The range of aircraft varies between 4,000 km and 5,500 km, and the service ceiling is 20,000 m. The maximum durability of the Su-57 is three hours. This aircraft weighs around 18,500 kg and has a maximum takeoff weight of 37,000 kg. This aircraft can reach the target within 400 km.

Sukhoi Su-57 PAK-FA Cockpit

The sophisticated aircraft has a one-seat cockpit equipped with electronic systems including an automatic flight control system (AFCS) and other additional equipment.

Sukhoi Su-57 PAK-FA Specs

The Sukhoi Su-57 is designed to perform supersonic at speeds of more than 2,000 km/ h along with refueling on maintenance flights. This will show short takeoff and landing capabilities, and can achieve greater agility, low radar visibility and low heat signatures. The plane does not have a steering wheel. The design of the tail fin is similar to that of the V-tail included in Northrop YF-23.

Horizontal stabilizers and vertical wing leading devices are used for signature control. The exterior of the aircraft is designed using stealth or low-observable (LO) technology.

The Su-57 PAK-FA aircraft radar has been designed based on the Su-35BM system. Tikhomirov NIIP the instrument design bureau has sent radar, Irbis N035 on the plane. The Su-57 prototype is also equipped with an active antenna system and three X-band radars (front and side view), Ku-band ventral radar equipped with friends or enemies (IFF), actively contacted electronic radar arrays (AESA) and subsystems electronic warfare.

Sukhoi Su-57 PAK-FA Price and Orders

The price of a new Su-57 PAK-FA stealth fighter aircraft is around US $ 50 Million. Request for proposals (RFP) were issued by the Russian Air Force in 1998 to be approved and established by the Sukhoi Su-57 prototype. The Russian Air Force selected the Sukhoi Design Bureau in 2002 to establish a full-size double-engined fighter aircraft.

About 150 to 200 aircraft orders from the Russian Air Force (RAF) and 200 from the Indian Air Force (IAF) are expected. Production will begin in 2015 after five to six flight tests. About three trials were completed in February 2010.
