Gulfstream G650: Price, Interior, Specs, Range,Cockpit. Gulfstream G650 features ultra high speed, cross country features and is the most expensive business jet produced by the US-based Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation. The G650 project started in May 2005 and was inaugurated in March 2008. The G650 prototype was released on September 29, 2009 at the Gulfstream plant facility in Savannah, Georgia, United States.
The inaugural flight of the Gulfstream G650 happened on November 25, 2009 and the first flight test series was completed in December 2009. Gulfstream completed the G650 load limit test in May 2010 for FAA and EASA approval. Tests are carried out on the main structural components which include the fuselage, wings, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, landing gear and flight control surfaces.
CPI Aerostructures signed a contract with Spirit Aerosystem in November 2010 to supply sophisticated assemblies to be included in the G650 aircraft. The aircraft received its type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in September 2012. The production certificate from the FAA was received in December 2012. The aircraft also received type certification from the European Safety Aviation Agency (EASA) in December 2012.
Gulfstream G650 Engine
Gulfstream G650 is powered by two Rolls-Royce Deutschland BR725A1-12 turbofan engines, which together produce 143.2 kN of power on takeoff. Manufactured in Germany, the BR725A1-12 engine was principally developed for long-distance business jets. The machine entered service in December 2012 via G650.
The BR725A1-12 engine offers high thrust, large payload, better fuel efficiency, cleaner and quieter operation and longer upkeep intervals. It is furnished with a 50in sweep fan consisting of 24 titanium blades to increase aerodynamic flow and efficiency and reduce noise and emissions.
It also has a bundled engine and crew warning system (EICAS), system display, automatic dual flight control system, automatic emergency drop mode and 3-D scanning weather radar (RDR-4000).
Gulfstream G650 can travel up to 12,960 km at 904km/ hour. Maximum speed and cruising are 982 km/ hr and 957 km/ hr respectively. It can rise to an altitude of 51,000 feet to avoid traffic and bad weather.
The maximum takeoff weight is 47,179 kg. Wing loading and cabin pressure are 77.7 lb/ ft ² and 10.7 psi respectively. The take-off distance and cruising distance are 1,829 m and 9,260 km respectively.
Gulfstream G650 Cabin and Interior
Gulfstream G650 cabin combines recommendations from fleet operators. The cabin body length has increased by 24in, while the width and height have increased by 14in and 3in respectively compared to the Gulfstream G550.
The size of windows has increased by 20.5 in. The cabin volume is 60.51 m3. The cabin length and height of G650 are 16.33 m and 1.95 m respectively, while the width is 2.59 m.
The cabin has improved on-board lighting and sophisticated communication systems. To provide more legroom, the length of the living room has been increased. The new cabin width allows wider seats to be accommodated and provides more hallway space.
A cabin occupies the space left in the cabin. It has a chair, a couch that is a double bed, a 26in pop-up LCD monitor and two windows on each side.
The bound leather panel, engine frame and precision assembly are used in the design and manufacturing process of the G650 fuselage. This method reduces assembly time and energy consumption.
The fuselage is made of metal, while the tail assembly, wings, rear pressure bulkhead, engine protective sheet, and cabin floor structure are made with composites.
Gulfstream G650 Specs
Gulfstream G650 is designed using three-dimensional electronic devices. This is a long-distance jet and has a bigger cabin than other business jets in its class. G650 can also land at smaller airports.
The G650 fuselage is oval with a flat bottom. The surface is fully controlled by fly-by-wire technology. The wing was designed in 2006. Testing of the tunnels was completed at the end of 2008.
Gulfstream G650 is outfitted with satellite telephone and wireless internet. It also has a water treatment facility, IWG-A6, which is produced by Canadian International Water-Guard Industries (IWG). This unit is able to provide water treatment for all Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 aircraft.
A flow rate of about 4gal/ minute can be produced by a 10 lb. water treatment unit on board. The upkeep unit combines ultraviolet disinfection with a replaceable filter to produce clean water from the on-board inventory. It also has a better self-monitoring system.
The G650 power system components include two 40kVA integrated drive generators and a 40kVA APU generator. The G650 features a 15kVA ram air turbine, which offers greater electric power capacity, uninterrupted power transfer capability and adds redundancy for safe and reliable operations.
The safety flight test for the G650 secondary power distribution system was completed in October 2009 by GE Aviation. The power distribution system uses modular and solid-state power tiles that minimize mounting weight and volume. System architecture reduces its overall weight.
A US-based aerospace equipment manufacturer, NORDAM Group supplies the main landing gear doors and 20 wing-to-body fairing panels that extend to 46 feet. Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation granted a $ 100 million contract for the work to NORDAM in 2007. On November 3, 2009, NORDAM sent the first two panels and six main landing door ships for final assembly.
Gulfstream G650 Cockpit and Avionics
Gulfstream G650 is geared up with an enhanced second generation vision system II (EVS-II), which includes a head-up II (HUD II) display, runway system and advisory system (RAAS) and a synthetic vision-primary flight display (SV-PFD) These features offer a higher level of security.
EVS and SV-PFD help pilots monitor terrain, obstacles, and approaches in adverse weather conditions. Real-world images are captured by the infrared camera (FLIR) EVS and displayed on the HUD II in the cockpit.
The jet liner is also furnished with the Plane View II cockpit, which includes the Triplex Flight Management System, four 14in liquid crystal displays (LCDs), and interactive network traffic visualization (INAV).
The cockpit also has a dual radio system with the third NAV/ COM communication management function and a central upkeep computer. The fly-by-wire technology has been applied in advanced jet flight control systems, reducing pressure on the fuselage.
In March 2008 Honeywell was granted a $ 3 billion contract by Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation to supply avionics and mechanical systems for G650.
Honeywell has provided the next generation flight management system (NGFMS) that displays track guidance, required arrival time (RTA) and display drift-down transitions and curved engine-out trajectories. Avionics supplied by Honeywell also includes a dual standby LCD 5in LCD (SMC) multifunction controller, a Laseref VI three inertial reference system and MCS-7120 (SATCOM) satellite communication system.
Gulfstream G650 Price and Orders
The price of the most current Gulfstream G650 is about US $ 68 Million. In September 2012, Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation received orders for 200 jet liners and 400 letters of intent for G650. In March 2009 JPMorgan Chase announced plans to buy two G650 business jets.
About $ 138 million has been designated by JPMorgan Chase to buy jets and renovate hangars at Westchester Airport to accommodate them. Of the $ 138 million, about $ 120 million will be spent on the jet itself, while the remaining $ 18 million will be used to renovate the hangar. Gulfstream started shipping G650 to clients in December 2012. The first jet was sent in December 2012, to US-based consumers.
