Fokker 100: Engine, Seats, Price, Specs, & Details. Fokker 100 is a medium-sized aircraft that was created and produced due to the Fokker Aircraft Company (FAC), the Netherlands. Introduced in the 1980s, these aircraft have low operating expense and no competition and are best-sellers in the category of 100 seats in that period.
In 1983 the Fokker 100 design was announced as a replacement for the extended Fokker F28. The United States Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was a Fokker 28-0100, although many parts of the two designs were similar. The first prototype (PH-MKH) made its maiden flight in November 1986. The second prototype (PH-MKC) flew in February 1987. The first Fokker 100 was sent to its launch customer, SwissAir, in February 1988.
The airline dilemma in the 1990s and competition from Bombardier CRJ200 and Embraer ERJ 145 adversely affected the sale of Fokker 100 and the company went bankrupt in 1996. Production ended in 1997. A total of 278 aircraft were produced. In 2009, 30 airlines operated 229 Fokker 100 aircraft.

Fokker 100 has two cabin configurations. One of them is a 109-seat economy class layout with five consecutive seats and the other is a business class layout with four consecutive seats. The typical cabin layout has 107 seats on pitch 32in. The aircraft has a top deck compartment to both sides of the entrance that offers a higher carrying capacity. It also has a passenger door opening to the front or a downward opening door with integrated stairs.
