Vans RV-14 Review, Price, Specs, Interior, Cockpit. The Vans RV-14 is the latest two-seat light sport aircraft designed and manufactured by Van’s Aircraft headquartered in Oregon, United States. This aircraft can be used for the purpose of sports tours and basic/ advanced pilot training. The first prototype RV-14 aircraft completed its first flight test in July 2012. Another variant of this aircraft is the RV-14A.
Vans RV-14 Engine and Performance
The RV-14 aircraft is powered by a Lycoming IO-390 engine which produces an output power of 210 hp. This four-cylinder engine has a fuel capacity of 50 gal. RV-14 aircraft can fly with a maximum cruise speed of 330 km/ h and go at 305 km/ h using 70% power. The aircraft can travel up to 1,400 nm in eight hours of flight. It has a range of 938 mi with a light weight and 925 mi with a gross weight.
The aircraft’s takeoff distance is 160 m, and landing distance is 166 m. This aircraft has a climbing rate of 1,500 feet/ minute and a maximum ceiling of more than 18,000 ft (5,486 m). The aircraft weighs around 1,700 lb (771 kg), while the maximum take-off weight is 2,050 lb (930 kg).
Vans RV-14 Specs
The RV-14 aircraft are built based on the RV-10 aircraft with similar features including the tail wheel and nose of the aircraft. The fuselage is made of aluminum and uses wings with airfoil. The aircraft has components such as wing spars, pre-installed bubble canopies, pre-installed cables and avionics systems that are easy to assemble.
The overall dimensions of the RV-14 aircraft include a length of 6.43 m, a height of 2.48 m, and a wingspan of 8.23 m. It has a wing area of 11.7 m ². A large wing and flap area allows planes to land at short distances. It can also land on grass, dirt, and gravel runways.
The standard RV-14 aircraft has a conventional two-seat landing gear with rear wheels. The wheel consists of leaf springs made of steel. It has 4 × 1 fixed wheels between leaf springs at one end and the plane at the other side. The RV-14A version is equipped with a fixed tricycle type landing gear tricycle.
Vans RV-14 Cockpit and Avionics
The RV-14 cockpit is equipped with the Skyview avionics system supplied by Dynon Avionics. This system has a standard cable harness to handle the usual electrical basics such as lights, fuel pumps, flaps, and trims.
Wiring harness also has a convenient plug-and-play expansion capability for electronic flight instrumentation systems (EFIS). This can significantly reduce pilot workload due to the fast and positive response of the aircraft to small control inputs.
Vans RV-14 Cabin and Interior
The RV-14 cabin is designed with a two-seat interior side by side. The large cabin can accommodate one passenger and one pilot. The cabin has wider head and legroom and is equipped with a large bubble canopy that can increase passenger visibility in all directions.
The aircraft has a maximum luggage capacity of 100 lb which is located behind the instrument panel. In addition, the aircraft is equipped with a exhaust system that keeps noise inside the cabin at low levels.
Vans RV-14 Price
