Kolb Flyer Super Sport: Price, Specs, Cockpit, & Details. Kolb Flyer SS (Super Sport) is a light sport aircraft produced jointly by New Kolb Aircraft, US and Flyer Industria Aeronautica, Brazil. This aircraft was originally developed as an Ultravia Pelican designed by Jean Rene Lepage. Pelican was produced by Ultravia Aero International until the company closed in 2006. New Kolb Aircraft obtained a design and began production in 2008.

The first flight of the Kolb Flyer SS aircraft was carried out in April 2008 and launched on the market in July 2008 at Airventure 2008, Oshkosh, USA. Around 75 aircraft have been operating since July 2008. SS-S-LSA flyers (Light Sports Special Aircraft).

Kolb Flyer Super Sport Engine and Performance

The Kolb Flyer SS aircraft is powered by a single Rotax 912 S engine that produces an output power of 100 hp (74.6 kW). The engine has a maximum continuous power of 95 hp (70.87 kW). This aircraft allows the installation of various engines because of its long nose. The aircraft can fly with a maximum cruising speed of 216.6 km/ h with a climbing rate of 1.234 fpm. Two fuel tanks (in each wing) have a capacity of 14 gallons (53 liters) each, giving the aircraft endurance for five hours.

The Kolb Flyer SS design has been modified to fit the US light sports aircraft market. The fuselage was made of fiber-glass material, then replaced with carbon-fiber material. This was done to reduce the weight of the aircraft while increasing its strength.
